Christmas Dinner in Niagara Falls!

Thursday, December 14

We traditionally serve a full ham dinner, and if anyone would like to help us out with that effort, we would greatly appreciate it! We need hams, boxes of scalloped potatoes, frozen peas, cans of crushed pineapple, butter, and eggs. Please bring these items in by Sunday, December 10. If you prefer to donate funds to cover the cost of some needed supplies, that would be gratefully accepted.

We also extend our invitation to anyone who may want to come out and help prepare and serve our meal, not just this Christmas dinner, but any Thursday you may be available. We have a wonderful core group that dedicates their time every week, and for them, I have the greatest appreciation, but there is always room for others who would like to experience God moving through this ministry.

And you are certainly welcome to show up and receive a meal if you’re in the neighborhood! We serve at First UMC, 8210 Buffalo Ave., every Thursday night from 5:00-6:00 PM, and we would love to see you! If you would like more information, please contact DJ Mahar.

Feeding Hope

Wednesday, December 13 - Prep begins at 3:00 PM in the kitchen

This month, we are blessed with all we need to prepare our meal to serve the homeless and hungry, donated by the Girl Scouts Troop 70122. We still need hands to prepare, pack up and serve. We will meet in the church kitchen at 3:00 PM and leave the church to go downtown at 6:30.

If you or someone you know needs a dinner, please call the church office. If you'd like to help, please contact Sandy Houck. If you would still like to "give," please donate with your church offering.

What’s next for you as a disciple of Jesus?

No matter how long you have known God, there's probably an area of faith where you'd like to learn more. In January, we're starting some groups that will help participants grow in an aspect of faith together:

  1. Understanding the Bible: If you've never been exposed to how the Bible is organized or how to use it in your walk of faith, this group will teach you those types of things to help you apply God's word to your everyday living.

  2. Discovering Your Gifts and Calling: This group will walk participants through learning the spiritual gifts outlined in scripture. The group will also engage in different exercises to help everyone discern how God might be calling them to use those gifts in the church or community.

  3. Developing Your Prayer and Devotional Life: A lot of people aren't comfortable praying, or they might believe that their prayers aren't effective. This group will focus on understanding the purpose of prayer and different types of prayers. We'll also learn how to use devotional and prayer time to get closer to God.

Sign up on one of the sheets in the back of the sanctuary. The groups will set their own meeting time after the new year. If you'd like more information, see Pastor Scott

Advent Bible Study

Thursdays at 11a & 7p, Connection Room 1

This Advent Bible study will explore different ways to maximize our time of preparation for the coming of Christ. There are many ways our culture gets Christmas wrong. This will help us focus on the right things as we find new hope, peace, joy, and love this year.

If you'd like to join the evening sessions online, email Pastor Scott.

Confirmation

Confirmation is an opportunity to respond to the grace of God available to us, as acknowledged in baptism, and to promise to live as a person of faith. We explore what makes us United Methodists and what it means to live our lives for Christ. If you have a youth in grades 6-12 and they are interested in being confirmed this year, please let Pastor Jennifer know by December 17. We are looking for classes to begin in January.

Sponsor A Youth Group Snack

Part of our Youth Group program is a time of snack. We provide snacks each meeting because we believe that food brings them together in fellowship with one another and helps them to connect socially and have casual conversations with each other. Plus, what teenager doesn’t like food?

We are looking for volunteers to help in the following ways:

  • By providing snack items such as chips, drinks, cookies, etc. that we can use any week.

  • Providing a pre-made snack (homemade or store bought) on a specific Youth Group night.

  • Providing monetary donations.

If this is something you would be interested in supporting, please contact Adrienne Demmin.
