Pendleton Center United Methodist Church

Connecting people with Christ

We’re like other churches, but different!

Welcome! In many ways the Pendleton Center United Methodist Church is like other churches. We worship God, celebrate sacraments, and have Christian Education for our children. In some ways we are different. Our congregation is larger and younger than most churches. This allows us to offer activities, programs, and possibilities not found in many congregations. The most significant difference is our commitment to help heal spiritually broken people. Many of our people have been away from church for a long time when they start coming to church. The Pendleton Center UMC provides a safe, welcoming environment for people to explore a relationship with God from wherever they are on their spiritual journey.

You are invited to join us in seeking God’s transforming power in your life, and the lives of those you love.

Ash Wednesday Service

Wednesday, February 14 at 7pm

Lent is a season of the church when Christians are encouraged to focus more seriously on our faith. Fasting, reading scripture, prayer and examining our ethical life are regular practices we focus on more during Lent. It is based on the number 40: the 40 days it rained for Noah, the 40 years the Israelites spent in the desert, and the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and goes through the Saturday before Easter. A clever person will discover this is a period of 46 days. However, since Sundays are days of celebration of the Lord’s resurrection, they do not count as days in Lent. So we are back to 40 days. While we always need to focus on our faith, Lent is a reminder to step it up a little.

Join us Wednesday, February 14 at 7pm as we begin this journey together.

Shrove Tuesday Dinner

Tuesday, February 13 from 5-6:30pm

Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. The dinner stems from the tradition of using up the "rich" foods, such as eggs, milk and sugar prior to the 40 days of fasting during Lent. Fasting for 40 days does not mean to stop eating; instead it meant switching to "plainer" food and refraining from foods that would give pleasure. For many cultures, this meant no meat, dairy or eggs.

Join us for our Annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner from 5-6:30pm on Tuesday, February 13. The menu consists of pancakes, applesauce, sausage, and a beverage. It's a free will offering, so there is no set price. Proceeds will go toward the Easter Celebration and Egg Hunt. This is a great time for families and friends to gather and partake of a nice meal.

Genesis Preschool

It’s almost time to sign up for fall 2018 Genesis Preschool classes! Registration will be open to members of our church and current preschool families on February 1. On March 1, registration will be open to the community. Space is limited and classes fill up quickly. We have a great staff and curriculum that includes kindergarten readiness skills, basic Christian concepts, music, arts and crafts, field trips and much more.

Catch The Spirit Workshop

The Niagara Frontier annual district workshop and fellowship day is called Catch the Spirit and it will take place at Clarence UMC on Saturday, February 24. Registrations are due by February 16. There are a wide variety of workshops and everyone will gather for worship and lunch in between the morning and afternoon sessions.
